Decades

This page collects all our decade-themed quizzes in one place, covering the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Each decade has its own set of picture quizzes, dingbat puzzles, and trivia rounds — so whether you're building a full pub quiz night around a single era or mixing things up across all four decades, everything you need is here as an instant PDF download. Print, play, and repeat.

A quick note on formats: picture quizzes come on a single printed sheet with space for answers, a quiz master answer sheet, and usually a clues version. Dingbat quizzes work the same way but use picture puzzles instead of photos. Trivia quizzes vary — some are multiple choice, some are match-ups, some are fill-in-the-blanks — but all come with answer sheets included. You'll find more detail on each format in the section intros below.

1960s picture quizzes

Each of our picture quizzes fits on a single printed A4 or letter sheet. There are twelve questions, with space on the sheet itself for players to write their answers. A separate quiz master answer sheet is included with every download, so you don't need to organise anything extra at your end. Most of our picture quizzes also come with a clues version — the same twelve images, but with some letters of each answer filled in, which lets you dial the difficulty up or down depending on your group. Where a quiz title includes the word "Mystery", the photos are close-up or cropped shots that make even familiar subjects harder to place.

1960s Bands picture quiz sheet preview

1960s Bands

Twelve classic 1960s bands to identify from band photos. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are both in there, which gives most people a confident start. But the quiz also covers bands where people know the music far better than the faces — Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Yardbirds, and The Velvet Underground are all included, and that's where the arguments tend to start. A clues version is included if you want to make it slightly more accessible. You can see a full preview of all twelve images on the Etsy listing. A strong music round for any 60s-themed night, or as a pub quiz picture round for a broadly mixed group.

1960s Famous Faces picture quiz sheet preview

1960s Famous Faces

Twelve of the most iconic faces of the 1960s — from music, politics, sport, and the arts. Neil Armstrong and Marilyn Monroe are both in there and will give most players an immediate start. But the quiz also includes figures that people recognise on sight but sometimes struggle to name quickly, and the mystery close-up format means even familiar faces can catch you out when you're only working from a single cropped still. Clues version included. See the full quiz on the Etsy listing before you buy. Good for pub quiz picture rounds or as part of any 60s nostalgia event.

1960s dingbats quizzes

A dingbat is a picture puzzle where an image — or a combination of images — represents a word or phrase. In these quizzes, each dingbat clue represents a song title, film title, or TV show name from the relevant decade. So instead of being shown a photo of the thing and asked to name it, you're shown a visual pun and asked to decode it. Like all our other quizzes, dingbats come on a single printed sheet with twelve questions, answer space on the sheet, and a full quiz master answer sheet included. Most also come with a clues version. The clue for "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas and the Papas, for example, uses a raisin dreaming about the outline of California — which is exactly the kind of thing that makes someone groan and then immediately want to try the next one.

1960s Hits Dingbats quiz sheet preview

1960s Hits Dingbats

Twelve classic 1960s hit songs, each represented by a picture puzzle. "Paint It Black" and "Ring of Fire" are both in there and will get most people started. The quiz also includes tracks where the visual pun takes more thought — "Waterloo Sunset" uses Water, a Loo, and a Sunset, which sounds laboured until you see it drawn out, at which point it makes perfect sense. Clues version included. Full preview on the Etsy listing before you buy. A good music round for 60s-themed parties, or for pub quiz nights with a broadly retro-minded audience.

1960s Movie Dingbats quiz sheet preview

1960s Movie Dingbats

Twelve 1960s film titles as picture puzzles. "Mary Poppins" and "Midnight Cowboy" are both in there. The clue for "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" uses a good expression, a bad one, and a UGG boot laying down — which sounds implausible until you see it drawn, at which point it lands with that specific satisfaction that the best dingbats produce. Clues version included. Full preview on the Etsy listing. Works well as a film round for any retro quiz night, and pairs nicely with the other film dingbat quizzes from later decades on this page.

1960s TV Show Dingbats quiz sheet preview

1960s TV Show Dingbats

Twelve 1960s TV shows — mostly US productions — as picture puzzles. "Batman" and "Star Trek" are both in there, which is not a spoiler since neither of those clues reveals how the puzzle works. The clue for "I Dream of Jeannie" uses an eye dreaming of a genie, which is one of those straightforward-sounding clues that still somehow surprises you when you see it. Clues version included. Full preview on the Etsy listing. Works well for international audiences, since these shows had global reach.

1960s UK TV Show Dingbats

A British-focused version of the 1960s TV dingbats, covering twelve classic UK shows including Doctor Who, The Prisoner, and Coronation Street. The clue for "Joe 90" involves some multiplication — 9 x 10 = 90, as it turns out — which is perhaps the most mathematically rigorous puzzle on the page. Shows like "That Was the Week That Was" and "The Likely Lads" are also included, which require a few more lateral steps. Clues version included. Full preview on Etsy. Best for UK audiences and ideal for any 60s nostalgia event.

John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Elvis Presley & Priscilla Beaulieu, and Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton are all in there. Some couples are well remembered as couples; others — like Mia Farrow & Frank Sinatra, or Joan Baez & Bob Dylan — are ones people know as individuals but don't always connect together at the right point in time. Answer sheet included. A good trivia activity for any 60s-themed event, particularly for groups with older participants.

Bet Lynch and Hilda Ogden are in there, and any regular Corrie viewer should get those without too much trouble. The quiz also includes characters people remember by name but don't always place by face — Ena Sharples and Albert Tatlock both feature, and close-cropped black-and-white stills from fifty years ago are trickier than you'd expect. Clues version included. Full preview on Etsy. A natural fit for any event where Coronation Street fans are in the room.

Mystery 1970s Pop Stars picture quiz sheet preview

Mystery 1970s Pop Stars

Twelve 1970s pop stars in mystery close-up format. David Bowie and Elton John are both in there, and most people will identify those quickly — the visual style of both artists in their 70s peak is distinctive enough even from a cropped still. Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, and Bruce Springsteen are also included, alongside a few that require more thought even from confirmed music fans. Clues version included. Full preview on the Etsy listing. Good for pub quiz nights or as part of a 70s music-themed evening.

Pop Stars Born in the 1970s picture quiz sheet preview

Pop Stars Born in the 1970s

This one has a twist: it's not about the music of the 1970s, but the pop stars who were born in that decade. Robbie Williams, Eminem, and Shakira are all in there, which sounds like a giveaway in print but is harder from a single photo than it sounds. Tupac Shakur is also included, as is Peter Andre — and identifying either from a single still is a different skill from just knowing who they are. Clues version included. Full preview on Etsy. A good one for groups where the younger members might actually have an edge over the older ones for once.

The clue for "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls uses the number one, an R, and a bee — One R Bee — which is either brilliant or ridiculous, and we're going with brilliant. Zombie by The Cranberries is also included, where the visual clue is considerably more straightforward. Clues version included. Full preview on Etsy. A good round for groups who want something trickier than a standard name-that-song quiz.

1990s TV Show Dingbats

Twelve 1990s TV shows as picture puzzles, mostly US productions. Friends and The Sopranos are both in there. The clue for "Dawson's Creek" uses doors and suns — Door Suns Creek — which works better as an image than it reads in words. Twin Peaks is also in the quiz, and the visual pun there is exactly as literal as you'd expect. Seinfeld and The West Wing round out some of the more recognisable entries. Clues version included. 1990s UK TV Show Dingbats

Twelve 1990s British TV shows in dingbat format. Father Ted, One Foot in the Grave, and The Vicar of Dibley are all in there. The clue for "Have I Got News for You" uses a half, an eye, and a goth — Half Eye Goth News 4 Ewe — which is as creative as this format gets. "Men Behaving Badly" is represented by men, a beehive, and something that sounds like "badly", which requires a moment of phonetic thinking. Clues version included. Full preview on Etsy. A strong round for UK audiences who remember 90s BBC comedy.

1990s Couples

A match-up quiz covering 18 famous couples from the 1990s. Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and David Beckham and Victoria Adams are all in there. Some pairings are immediately obvious; others — like Carolyn Bessette and John F. Kennedy Jr., or Helena Bonham Carter and Kenneth Branagh — require a more specific knowledge of who was with whom during which particular year. Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love are also included. Answer sheet provided. A good activity for 90s nostalgia evenings and anyone who takes their celebrity trivia seriously.
